Sore after a massage?

ALT="SORE AFTER A MASSAGE"

People are usually surprised to feel a little sore after a massage. This doesn’t always happen, but it can. A massage is a lot like working out. If you haven’t gotten a massage in a while, your muscles aren’t used to it, so you will have a bit of soreness. After the soreness goes away, you should feel much better than before you got the massage. The more often you get massaged the less sore you will be post massage. Unless otherwise recommended, 4-6 weeks is a good time to wait between massages. If you can get them more often, that’s even better!

If it’s your first visit to us and you are coming in because of pain, it will benefit you to come more frequently at first to retrain the body. Your muscles are used to being in one position which is causing you pain. It typically takes 3-4 massages within a few days apart to retrain them into the right position.

Here are some tips on how to get a great massage.

One tip that is on the list above that will help your post-massage soreness is being well hydrated. Getting a massage when you are dehydrated is not only more painful while getting the massage but will also make it harder for the muscles to recover. So be sure to drink your recommended amount of water for several days prior to your massage session.
