Therapeutic massage is a type of massage treatment specifically designed to target muscle tension, reduce pain, and improve joint mobility. Relaxation massage, on the other hand, focuses more on allowing your body and mind to relax. Learn more about how these massages differ and the benefits they can provide.

Therapeutic Massage vs Relaxation Massage

At Body Ache Escape we specialize in therapeutic massage, but many people wonder what type of massage that is anyways.
Massage therapy is one of the oldest and most natural forms of healing. There are many different types of massage, but two of the most common are relaxation massage and therapeutic massage. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the differences between these two types of massage, so you can choose the right one for your needs.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation Massage is what people usually get when they got a gift certificate and only comes in when it’s about to expire. It is a general massage that is only meant to relax, not to fix anything or relieve pain. It is a Swedish massage using techniques such as friction, kneading, percussion, and stroking. If you have any aches or pains, you will not want to choose this, you will want to choose a therapeutic massage. However, it is great for stress relief and to help general muscle tension!

we offer massage to a diversity of peopleTherapeutic Massage

The therapeutic aka deep tissue massage will be the option that most clients choose. If your neck is stiff or you have low back pain or have any other type of chronic pain, a therapeutic massage will most likely help. This massage consists of different techniques that the massage therapist has learned in continuing education courses. The techniques, depending on the therapist, could consist of trigger point, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, medical massage, craniosacral therapy, and many more.

One thing to be aware of…deep tissue is not always synonymous with deep pressure. A massage does not always have to have a lot of pressure to be effective.  If the techniques hurt, a client will most of the time not be able to relax into the technique. This will cause the massage not to be as effective.
One of the great things about Body Ache Escape is that we charge the same amount of money for relaxation and therapeutic massages.
